Data Collection
The Global AI Talent Tracker analyzes researchers who published at NeurIPS, one of the premier machine learning conferences. We collect data on author names, current institutional affiliations, and educational backgrounds.
Country Classification
We classify researchers' country of origin based on where they completed their undergraduate education. This provides a more accurate picture of talent flows than using current work location or citizenship alone.
Limitations
The tracker focuses on academic AI research and may not fully capture talent in industry research labs. Additionally, NeurIPS represents just one (albeit important) venue for AI research publication.
